Kites and point and shoots

Summer is slowly revealing it's self and so days down the park are an inevitable pleasure. This weekend I heard about a kite festival in south London so went to check it out, I left my SLR at home and just had a small point and shoot camera but I still managed to get a nice pic of Sophia my friend Vicky's daughter and a picture that seemed to sum up some of the frustration of the 1st time kite flyers. We had mixed success, the stunt kite refused to do anything other than spin out of control until it hit the ground and the single line kite flew well but with so many kites in the sky the only problem was avoiding other peoples lines.

I had an assignment to shoot the Nottingham Robin Hood marathon yesterday and even though I took my bike I didn't expect to do the whole course. But as I was photographing the relay team from Unison I had to get a few hand over shots and this resulted in having to get to the various stages. By the time I was back the finish line I felt like I'd done my own marathon, dashing around with cameras in pannier bags, but cycle helmets off to those who did it for real and raised loads of cash for charities. I was particularly impressed by the dad who ran the whole marathon pushing his autistic son in a buggy.

back flips in Bristol

Inkie with New York's Tats Crew are entertained by Bristol's oldest break dancer, Smurf. We had a lot of fun me and Smurf making photos of him flipping, spinning and generally defying gravity all around Nelson Street. This could be the start of a new project together as he plans to come to London on a mission to make more pictures of himself dancing in unusual places.

Nottinghill Carnival 2011

Last week was the world famous Nottinghill Carnival and while I normally go for the food and the music this year I went for work. I was photographing a float sponsored by the public sector union Unison and had to capture their involvement. But apart from all the usual carnival pictures I did get a couple of pics I was quite please with. The carnival team at the bus stop I saw as I was leaving and couldn't resist it. The vuvuzela and the drinker was shot from the top of the float I was on.

blog update

I'm not really in the swing with this blogging lark, I know you're supposed to drop interesting and whimsical blog bombs on an hourly basis but I was busy doing other stuff. However I hope to get back on the virtual bike and update slightly more frequently in the future.
This is from a new project that I'm doing with a writer mate of mine. We found a hostel in East London that takes homeless owners with their pets, it's one of a kind apparently so we thought we would look at it. Also interested to learn of the psychological and emotional relationship between homeless people and their dogs, or is it just a way to earn more money?
I have only photographed this one guy but plan on trying to meet a few more this week...
